Tourism in the Marsican Region

Hotel Olimpia is an excellent reference point also for those who travel for pleasure. Not only can you reach the ski resorts of Ovindoli and Campo Felice in about 30 minutes by car, but all of Abruzzo is at your fingertips, allowing you to discover a region that is still little known and outside of the mass-tourism circuit.

Many are the hidden jewels offered by our land, beginning with the villages in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, such as Celano and Scurcola Marsicana, with their imposing castles, or the artistic treasure chest that is Tagliacozzo. Essential destinations for nature lovers are the Sirente Velino Park and the Altopiano delle Rocche Plateau. If your passion when travelling is archeology, just a few minutes from the hotel Alba Fucens, known as the Pompeii of Abruzzo, can be found. This archaeological site is universally fascinating. A tip, do not miss the flaming sunsets at the archaeological park overlooking the Piana del Fucino, a surprising sight which will remain with you forever.

The history of the Fucino territory is full of curious facts and anecdotes waiting to be discovered. Precisely in this location was once the third largest lake in Italy. In order to find out the history of how it dried up, and of the characters who changed the fate of this piece of Italy (starting from the Emperor Claudius to Prince Torlonia), you can visit the Aia dei Musei (the Museums Courtyard), a museum hub where 2000 years of events and lives which revolved around Lake Fucino are narrated.

For those wishing to prolong their stay, the main tourist attractions that can be reached by short trips are: L'Aquila, the Gran Sasso D'Italia, Rocca Calascio, Sulmona, Roccaraso, Scanno with its lake, the Abruzzo National Park, all of them at an hour or so drive from our Hotel.

Please, get in touch with us, we will be more than happy to give you all the information you need to make the most of your stay at the Hotel Olimpia.
